L'AVENIR DU LAUDERHILL MALL
Lauderhill, Sunday December 2007
Mr Kaplan, Mayor
I live in the Lauderhill East complex.
Many people ask me what’s going to happen with the Lauderhill Mail.
I know that Wyn & Dixie is in difficulty and it’s very useful for people around here.
Do you think, if they close, it will be replaced by another market?
I write a blog here, for the people connected to the web and they asked me to collect some information about that matter.
Thank you,
Claude Millette
The answer
Not to long ago the Lauderhill Mall was sold, and will be torn down in phases over the next 10 years or less. The new group will be renaming it the Lauderhill City Centre, and it will cost about $ 1 1/2 Billion to fully complete. The first phase of reconstruction should start in 2008, and will be in the SE Corner. I believe it shows a parking garage and some reatil stores. Winn Dixie is going to stay there, but will eventually move to a new location within the premises. There are some other large retailers that are going to come in as well. In the rear will be new housing, and in the front will be a marketplace. The last phase will be the actually tearing down of the mall and rebuilding there.
There were drawings of the new facility in the office of the mall, so you can go see for yourself. They have committed a lot of money to it, and we have been working with them towards moving the project forward.
Mayor Kaplan
