Satellite dishes allowed, but they can be regulated

Q. I live in a condo. The executive members of the board have decided that all satellite dishes must be removed at the owners' expense.
Many residents who use satellite dishes are upset and believe this action violates a federal law that allows people to have satellite dishes.
Can you tell us whether the board can make this type of rule?

A. The condo cannot make a rule prohibiting the use of satellite dishes. However, the condo can make rules that would require members to place the dish in a manner that would aesthetically blend into the landscape.
